Pozzo, (very) up close

Still getting my land-legs from the upheaval of getting the new half-semester started. In the meantime, though, have a look at this: a zoomable image of Andrea Pozzo's magnificent 1685 ceiling painting, La Gloria di Sant'Ignazio.

Hat-tip: Clusterflock.

Very cool, especially the music background. I loved panning the image. Thanks for this.

Cheers.

Definitely worth a visit thanks. The music gives it a theatrical flavour in an appropriate setting. It would be really great to lie on the floor and zoom and pan in like that.

This sort of exposure must be good for all sorts of reasons, one being that it reminds me that I haven’t been there yet and need to sooner rather that later.

I was wondering what you would say on the subject of Dutch v Italian Art of the 17c.

You recently talked about Caravaggio. He had quite a following in Holland by some accounts. The North/South cultural conflict was I understand strongly in evidence in Anne Boleyn’s day a hundred years before. Looking at one Dutch painter I admire, Hendrick Jansz ter Brugghen, the similarity in style is indeed strong. It would seem at least some meeting of minds. See article here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hendrick_ter_Brugghen
